The Fiasco in Finances

Picture
The finance industry is known to be one of the most complex professions. This industry is complex because every financial institution or company must provide services that meet the standards of the Wall Street market. Also, policies and procedures can be removed, amended, or added at any point to adjust to the evolution and/or adaption of consumer needs, technology evolution, or any federal regulatory maintenance. Financial institutions only allot a specific amount of time for individuals within the profession to train, adjust, and transition to the changes. Sometimes, adjusting to the changes quickly can be extremely difficult if one is used to a familiar routine or procedure. Although I am a branch manager, my passion is directed toward financial risk analysis, management, and fraud detection. While obtaining a leadership role, the responsibilities of policy adaptation are crucial and highly time-consuming. During the allotted time to adjust to new routines and policies, the professional must still complete his/her daily required objectives (i.e., acquiring new client relationships, maintaining operational/risk management tasks within the branch, coaching and developing teammates based on performance and conflict resolutions). As a result, the leader sometimes feels pressured to adjust promptly and ensures that the adjustment is accurately meeting the bank’s standards. Leaders must often complete their tasks at home, which is detrimental to “work-life balance.”
A “work-life balance” is defined as the idea of an individual being able to complete tasks in their respective professions and their respective personal lives. The idea revolves around the need for equilibrium within both professional and personal concepts to maintain positive mental, physical, and emotional health. However, I believe that within the leadership roles of a financial company, being able to maintain a “work-life” balance is unrealistic. Only corporations and clients will benefit from the changes, not employees. The identified problem is the unrealistic structured outline corporations provide to employees ensuring/promising a healthy “work-life balance” within various roles. This problem was caused by the idea that the ideal hours of a full-time employee in America are 40 hours per week. However, many employees are mandated to work over those hours to meet the corporation's and their clientele's needs. At times, leadership roles require a minimum of 50 hours per week; some are required to work all 7 days of the week. As a result, this workload can catalyze stress within the leader and his/her personal life/family. This unrealistic "work-life balance” outline can be rearranged into a more doable plan and routine.

The initial step in solving this problem is to provide employees ample time to fully understand and adapt to any recent changes within the company. 2 weeks is the standard allotted time for training and adaption to a change in service/policy. However, with the 2 weeks actually listed as 10 business days (Monday-Friday) in the professional world, the allotted time is cut from 14 days to 10. Therefore, the deadline of the adaptation task transforms into efficiency rather than accuracy. I propose a plan of about three to four weeks of adaptation training that is sufficient for accurately learning the new process. This will promote accuracy in detail and efficiency and reduce errors in the future. In addition, it will eliminate the pressure of stress and increase the confidence of being able to perform under new adaptions.

Secondly, I would use the insight regarding data analysis to ensure accuracy and to view other case scenarios to determine a conclusion. For example, in order to wisely utilize the allotted time given to train to adapt and complete the remaining required daily objectives, research must be conducted to examine every careful scenario to determine the most efficient and accurate instructions for practicing time management effectively. Every option should reviewed and considered carefully to avoid possible errors. In addition, every option can be viewed with its corresponding result to determine the next best action step. This will also conclude in creating an effective backup plan for any worst-case scenarios. Precise research on a task can create an effective backup plan and promote professional assurance.

When one plans effectively yet accurately, examines and exhausts their options, and communicates clearly and effectively, one can reduce the strain and stress of not obtaining a quality “work-life” balance. Lastly, the insight of using the balance of communication amongst parties can aid in enhancing work-life balance scheduling. Corporations can sometimes obtain a reputation of being “cutthroat” or “overworking their employees to their benefit.”

However, with the constant evolution of human resource departments becoming more employee-oriented, employees for various companies can eliminate the feeling of hesitation to express their concerns about their profession without fear of repercussions. In every profession, the balance of communication is essential. Employees should be able to utilize all of their outlets whenever the company allows them to express a concern without fearing repercussions. In my profession, there have been times when the corporation has adhered to and acknowledged employee concerns. Eventually, it caused the corporation to create changes that answered and resolved these particular concerns. Multiple valuable resources can be utilized to juggle objectives and completion effectively. Mental health is considered a crucial topic in today's professional and academic society. Many corporations obtain resources that can aid the maintenance of an employee's mental health. Examples include personal leaves, employee counseling, and effective "safe-space conversations with human resource management. As a professional in any field, one must not hesitate to take advantage of the resources that are beneficial to mental health. If corporations would provide more realistic deadlines and present the valuable sources in an available light, one would be able to sustain a healthier “work-life” balance in one's life. When these importance insights are used an individual will be able to strive professionally and in his/her personal life.
